U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias Checkpoint rescued two illegal aliens Wednesday morning, who were confined inside a cargo trailer.
The rescue occurred when the vehicle’s driver attempted to travel through the checkpoint. When agents searched the trailer, they found a 17-year-old girl from El Salvador and a woman from Honduras, who is six-months pregnant. The trailer was stiflingly hot and not ventilated. The two illegal aliens were sweating profusely.
Agents immediately brought the pair into the checkpoint office to cool down and gave them water. The two illegal aliens were offered medical attention, which they declined.
The driver of the vehicle will be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to face alien smuggling charges. The two females will be processed accordingly.
“People are often unaware of the serious risks they take when they allow a human smuggler to conceal them in confined spaces with little to no ventilation,” Chief Patrol Agent Rosendo Hinojosa said. “As we near the summer months and temperatures continue to climb, it becomes increasingly deadly. Our agents are trained to respond to these situations and take the appropriate action to prevent further injury or death.”
