Photo: Tea Party Confonts Gov. Rick Perry, Urging Him to Hold Special Session on Immigration
Tea Party members and supporters in Texas are now pushing presidential candidate Gov. Rick Perry to call a special session to take on immigration legislation, wanting to see measures taken to halt undocumented immigration.
In a letter to Gov. Perry, a coalition of Tea Party groups wrote, “Although we do not necessarily hold you completely responsible for the inexcusable actions of the House and Senate members during the regular and special sessions, the ball is now squarely in your court.”
At a CNN Tea Party debate last week, Gov. Perry was booed largely due to his support for allowing undocumented students who have graduated from high school in Texas to pay in-state tuition at universities and colleges in the state.
Monday, a press conference was held, headlined by Texas Tea Party Caucus Advisory Committee Chair JoAnn Fleming, who said, “We’re just asking him to fight for his emergency legislation. We understand that he’s running for president, but this is a serious matter in our state.”
