Six people were killed Thursday when a small plane crashed just seconds after it took off from an airport in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, authorities told Efe.
The Cessna plunged to the ground and burst into flames at Angel Albino Corzo Airport near Tuxtla Gutierrez, the state capital.
The plane’s destination was Oaxaca city, capital of the neighboring state of Oaxaca, personnel with the DGAC civil aviation agency said.
Operations were suspended at the airport following the crash, which left the area shrouded in a dense cloud of smoke.
The Cessna made impact near the hangars belonging to the Chiapas state government, Cuarto Poder newspaper said, citing emergency services chief Luis Manuel Garcia.
