AS Monaco FC is demanding that Real Madrid pay an 85-million-euro ($114.7-million) transfer fee for Colombia’s James Rodriguez, a breakout star at the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil, Le Parisien reported Friday.
“Real Madrid and AS Monaco, where the Colombian has a contract through 2018, now must reach an agreement on the amount of the transfer,” the French daily said.
Le Parisien, which reported that Rodriguez has verbally committed to a five-year deal with the Blancos that would pay him 8 million euros per season, added that Real Madrid could include a player to sweeten the deal.
Rodriguez, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder, led Colombia to the World Cup quarterfinals and was the tournament’s top scorer with six goals.
AS Monaco made a big splash prior to the start of the 2013-2014 French-league season by signing Rodriguez from Portuguese club Porto and his countryman, striker Radamel Falcao, from Atletico Madrid.
The club proceeded to finish second in Ligue 1 and qualified for the 2014-2015 Champions League group stage.
