Colombia’s Oscar Albeiro Figueroa won the silver medal in the men’s under-62kg weightlifting class here Monday.
Lifting a total of 317 kg (140, 177), Figueroa set a new Olympic record with his clean and jerk.
This is Colombia’s second medal at the London Games, after Rigoberto Uran won the silver in the cycling road race on Saturday.
Figueroa, 29, finished behind North Korea’s Kim Un-Guk, who set a new world record with 327 kg.
The Colombian lifter placed fifth in his category at the Athens Games in 2004 and was unable to win a medal four years ago in Beijing.
Monday’s medal is the second consecutive Olympic silver for Colombia in this category, after Diego Salazar took second place in the under-62kg class in Beijing in 2008.
The bronze went to Indonesia’s Irawan Eko Yuli, who also lifted 317 kg, but whose greater body weight relegated him to third place.
