Brazilian star striker Neymar said here Thursday he will be “100 percent” when he joins FC Barcelona’s training sessions next week and is confident he will play in a friendly pre-season match later in August.
“I’m recovering little by little from the injury. I’ll arrive at Barcelona at 100 percent,” the striker told reporters in Tokyo, where he traveled to film a mattress commercial.
“I want to have a good season and I want to help my teammates achieve good results,” Neymar said, adding that his goals for the 2014-2015 season also include “contributing to the Brazilian (national) team.”
Neymar suffered a fractured vertebra during Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Colombia in the World Cup quarterfinals and was unable to play in the semifinals against Germany, which clobbered the host nation 7-1, or in the third-place match against the Netherlands, which defeated Brazil 3-0.
He told Japan’s Fuji television that he is on course to join Barcelona’s training sessions on Aug. 5 and plans to play on Aug. 18 against reigning Mexican-league champion Leon in the Joan Gamper Trophy, an annual pre-season match that Barcelona hosts.
