A Staten Island teenager has been given 6 years in prison for beating a Mexican immigrant last year.
Rodolfo Olmedo, 25, was briefly in a coma and spent five says in the hospital after 17-year-old Rolston Hopson and three others beat him on April 5th, 2010. Olmedo’s was only the first in a series of attacks that police believe were anti-Hispanic bias attacks in Staten Island’s Port Richmond area.
According to court documents, Hospson and the others beat Olmedo with wooden sticks and baseball bats.
The six year sentence was given to Hopson on Wednesday, and the others involved in the attack are set to be sentenced in the nest two weeks.
A grand jury declined to indict Hopson or the others on hate crime charges.
