A Massachusetts government official recently told a reporter that undocumented immigrant rape victims should be afraid to come forward, and speak with police after an attack.

Republican State Rep. Ryan Fattman was quoted by the Worchester Telegram & Gazette saying, “My thought is that if someone is here illegally, they should be afraid.”

Fattman goes on to say, “If you do it the right way (legally immigrate), you don’t have to be concerned about these things.”

His comments were made while he defended immigration legislation known as Secure Communities that many say will negatively effect the relationship between law enforcement and immigrant communities. The state’s Democratic governor, Deval Patrick has refused to join the program for this very reason.

“We run a serious risk of ethnic profiling and frankly fracturing incredibly important relationships in communities that are important for law enforcement,” Gov. Patrick told the Worchester Telegram & Gazette.

Rep. Fattman, also told the GlobeIf they’re here illegally, they have committed a crime,” and also said that all undocumented immigrants should be deported, with the same going for their children who were brought to the U.S. by their parents and family members.
