Thirty-year-old Joseph Ramirez claims voices in his head told him to take his three children to the Mount Hope Cemetery in San Diego, California and sacrifice them.
The incident occurred this weekend on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. When Ramirez starting slashing his 8-year-old son with broken glass heroic bystanders intervened when approached by Ramirez distraught wife.
Jaymisha Pires and Corey Granberry, both 21, saw what was going on and pleaded with Ramirez to let the boy go as well as his two daughters with him.
“We’re going to Jesus, we’re going to Jesus,” shouted Ramirez who eventually ran off and let the children go, including one toddler.
Security personnel at the cemetery located Ramirez and arrested him.
Ramirez and family were visiting the grave site of his grandmother and had surrounded the gravesite with candles and had set up a picnic. Ramirez claims he heard the voice of his grandmother urging him to make a human sacrifice of his son. His wife panicked and ran to get help.
The boy has been released after being briefly hospitalized at Rady Children’s Hospital. Ramirez faces attempted murder charges.
