Three Florida men were arrested after they allegedly broke into a house then snorted dog and human ashes. On Friday, one of those men was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
On December 15, 2010, Jose David Diaz-Marrero, Waldo Soroa, and Matrix Andaluz, broke into a Silver Springs Shores home. Once inside, Diaz-Marrero and his accomplices found three urns. Believing the urns were filled with drugs, the men reportedly snorted their contents, then continued throughout the house.
When the home owner, Holli Tencza, returned, she found burglars had stolen $1,500 worth of jewelry, a television, and a laptop. Perhaps the most horrifying however was when she discovered the urns containing the ashes of her father and two Great Dane dogs were missing.
Diaz-Marrero pled guilty in June in series of burglaries between December 2010 and January 2011. On Friday he was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after apologizing for his actions.
“I wish the victims were here,” he said in court on Friday, “So that I could tell them how sorry I am”
The men say they did not realize they had snorted ashes until seeing a news report about their burglary.
