The never-to-burn-out Julio Iglesias was awarded here Monday the Guinness Records trophy for the Latin artist who has sold the most discs, a triumphant way to kick off his tour of Asia.
“I’m bringing (my family) next week,” the singer said in an interview with Efe after receiving the award from the prestigious Chinese pianist Lang Lang, who also honored him as the artist who has sold the most discs in China, where the Spaniard has three concerts scheduled - in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing.
Wearing an impeccable black suit and his trademark tan, the artist had some beautiful words for his family, whom he loves, he said, more than himself.
Approaching 70 and with more than 300 million discs sold since he first made the world charts with tunes like “Gwendolyne,” Julio Iglesias made it clear that he has never yet thought of leaving the stage.
In their tour of China, the singer’s wife and children will travel with a teacher of Chinese, since Iglesias wants “the little ones to study Mandarin,” a language in which he has ventured to sing a few songs.
