“Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry’s new hour-long soap opera about Latina maids – who would think that could be interesting – has a June 23, 2013 release date.
The show will air on the Lifetime cable channel and reunites Cherry and former Housewife Eva Longoria. Longoria is executive producing the 13 episodes Lifetime has ordered.
“Devious Maids,” is loosely based on Mexican novela “Ellas son la Alegria del Hogar”. Cherry cast some of Hollywood’s leading Latinas to play the leads including Judy Reyes (Scrubs), Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace) and Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty).
Daytime soap opera super star Susan Lucci has also been cast to play one of the maid’s employers Genevieve Delacourt.
The Mexican version has four maids, Silvia, Maribel, Adela, Guillermina and Carmela, working in a quiet Beverly Hills residential condominium where nothing ever happens until the residents became divided over a decision to build a swimming pool despite there being a severe water shortage in the area.
