For anyone that is at least 30 years old or older you know her simply as Baby Jessica the 18-month old Texas toddler that fell down a well. The rescue of Jessica McClure of Midland Texas back in 1987 captivated a nation for 2 ½ days much like the Chilean miners rescue did recently.
She just turned 25 years old, is known as Jessica Morales mother of two and lives less than two miles from the very spot that made her famous. McClure Morales is now of age to gain access to a trust fund valued close to $800,000 that was made up of donations from kind and sympathetic strangers.
Though her rescue was televised from start to finish for 58 hours and she had to endure 15 operations for the injuries she received from the fall and entrapment – she remembers nothing. The only visible sign of her ordeal is a lost toe from gangrene. The iconic photo of her coming up from the 22 foot drop, bandaged and bruised was taken by Scott Shaw who won a Pulitzer Prize for it.
McClure Morales has spoken only three times publicly about the ordeal and lives a quiet life in Texas operating a truck washing business with husband Daniel Morales.
