While the original of Auguste Rodin ‘The Thinker’ sits at the artists museum in Paris 22 original casts are displayed around the world.  Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, is host to the third cast of this iconic and classic piece of art.

Argentina’s statue has sat proudly in front of the national congress building for decades and has now been vandalized, spray painted in green, pink and black.  When the government proceeded to have the statue cleaned more bad than good might of resulted.

Art experts say the cleaning process of water blasting apparently damaged the natural aged patina of blue-green on the statue.  Vandals had spray painted The Thinker in pink, gave him green hair and a black tattoo.

Argentina is known as the Paris of Latin America and the Rodin sculpture is one of Buenos Aires leading tourist attractions.  No one has claimed responsibility for the vandalism that appeared several days ago.  The statue will more than likely be relocated indoors to a more secure area.
