Today an Ohio grand jury indicted Puerto Rican Ariel Castro on 329 charges related to his alleged kidnapping, enslavement and sexual depravity toward three young women recently rescued from his home.

The 52-year-old former bus driver faces 177 charges of kidnapping for the kidnapping and enslavement of three young women for nearly ten years.  He is also charged with 139 counts of rape.  Castro is also facing aggravated murder charges for brutally ending the pregnancy of one of his captives – it is believed he beat the victim, in order to cause an abortion of the baby he had impregnated her with.

Castro also faces 7 counts of ‘gross sexual imposition’, 3 counts of felony assault and one count of possession of criminal tools.

Castro’s alleged crimes came to light when one of his victims, Amanda Berry and her daughter, broke free from Castro’s Cleveland home and were rescued with the help of good Samaritans.  Police discovered upon entering the house Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.  Knight, now 32 was the first to disappear in 2002, then Berry, now 27, in 2003 and finally DeJesus, now 21, a family friend of Castro. The 6-year-old rescued along with Berry is believed to be the biological daughter of Castro.

Prosecutors may level additional charges and have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.  Castro remains in jail on an $8 million bail.
