Over 200 Migrants Rescued at Sea by U.S. Coast This Week

More than 200 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic were rescued at sea during the course of one week and repatriated to their countries of origin, the U.S. Coast Guard reported Monday.

Through Sunday, the Coast Guard repatriated 88 undocumented Cuban migrants to Cuba, 82 Haitians to Haiti and 41 Dominicans and two Cubans to the Dominican Republic.

Tractor-Trailer Bus Crash Leaves 6 Dead in Nuevo Leon Mexico

At least six people died and 14 were injured in a Monday morning crash between a bus and a tractor-trailer in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, officials told Efe.

The incident occurred about 33 kilometers (20 miles) from the city of Monterrey, the state capital, according to the emergency services office in the municipality of Cienega de Flores.

A story out of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua reports that a woman was beheaded and her body dumped in the street.  30 meters away authorities located her upper limb.  The victim is currently unidentified reports the staff of the Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

The finding was reported Saturday in the intersection of Belisario Jesus Garcia and Lauro de Uranga, Colonia El Campanario.

The human remains were discovered inside a black bag.

The official report states that it is an unidentified female, 30 to 35 years old approximately , long straight brown hair. The woman was dark-skinned and had distinguishing permanent eyebrows.

The IA did not report details of the womans clothing but the body was taken as found in the plastic bag. There were signs that the victim was tied up and subjected to torture.

This is the first case of a woman decapitated in the city so far in 2014.

REPORT:  Nearly 20 Percent of Latin American Kids Ages 12-18 Do Not Attend School

About 20 percent of Latin Americans between the ages of 12 and 18 do not attend school, according to a report released here Monday by the U.N. Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean and the regional office of Unicef.

“Practically all 11-year-old children are in school in the countries of Latin America, but for 17-year-olds half have already left the system and only one in three completes high school without falling behind,” the document says.

Cristano Ronaldo’s Girlfriend to Star in Sao Paulo Fashion Week

Russian model Irina Shayk, the girlfriend of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, is the big star of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, which starts on Monday.

The 28-year-old Shayk will take the runway on Tuesday night in designs by Triton.

Brazilian Government Sends Armored VEhicles to Occupy Crime-Ridden Shantytowns

About 1,200 Brazilian police supported by armored vehicles provided by the navy on Sunday peacefully occupied the Mare Complex, a group of 15 “favelas,” or shantytowns, considered to be the most dangerous in Rio de Janeiro,

The operation, which had been previously announced and proceeded without gunfire or any other violence, began at 5 a.m. (0800 GMT) when 21 navy armored cars led the police into the shantytowns, where some 120,000 people live.

El Salvador Highway Accident Leaves 8 Dead, 32 Injured

At least eight people died and 32 were injured when the truck in which they were riding, which was being driven by a minor, flipped over near a town in central El Salvador, a municipal official said Sunday.

The accident occurred Saturday evening at Kilometer 123 of the Longitudinal del Norte highway near the town of Sensuntepeque in central Cabañas province, the head of communications for the mayor’s office of the town, Juner Guzman, told Efe.
