¡Enjoy! Beethoven Festival 2011
The International Beethoven Project presents Beethoven Festival 2011, a celebration of the life, work and spirit of Ludwig van Beethoven through music and art. This five day festival showcases 120 musicians performing over 80 works spanning 400 years in genres from baroque to rock - including twenty new works for solo piano - all connected in some way to Beethoven. 12 leading contemporary artists will unveil an exhibition of new portraits of Beethoven, while 5 filmmakers will premiere short films and film installations about the composer. Actors, poets and world-renowned Beethoven scholars help to round out this multi-disciplinary celebration.
Featured performers and ensembles include some of the best local and international musicians, including Winston Choi, Marta Aznavoorian, George Lepauw, Aurelian Pederzoli, Minghuan Xu, members of the Avalon and Spektral Quartets, and the Bach and Beethoven Ensemble. All events take place at the acoustically superb Chicago Urban Art Society from 4 pm - 2 am nightly, with many programs broadcast live on WFMT 98.7FM, Chicago’s classical music radio station, as well. Onsite food and and drink vendors will allow audiences to enhance their concert experience with a glass in hand.
