Suzie On The Scene

If Suzie didn’t already love the Los Angeles Philharmonic because her musical soul mate Gustavo Dudamel is the director, she loves it even more now with the upcoming Latin-themed gala on October 7th.  You will hear Peruvian opera superstar Juan Diego Florez sing La Flor de la Canela, Jurame and many other classics.  Bravo.

Our girl Frida is going to Vienna.  If the travel winds happen to bring you to Vienna, Austria stop by the Bank Austria Kunstforum that will be showing for THE FIRST TIME EVER a Frida Kahlo retrospective through January 17, 2011.  The exhibition will have 60 paintings, 20 art objects and 80 of Frida’s works on paper.  The exhibition was put together by none other than Frida’s great-niece Cristina Kahlo.

Suzie was in the audience with the proud Daley family as Maggie Daley opened the After School Matters 8th Annual Gala.  Suzie was then WOWed when the Jazz Big Band took the stage and the teen apprentices played Chick Corea’s “Spain”.  The dinner was entertaining as well when Suzie saw every want-to-be-mayor working the room.

Suzie on the Scene at the Goodman Theatre’s Opening Night of Sins of Sor Juana where she wined and dined with fab playwrite KAREN ZACARIAS and applauded play director HENRY GODINEZ appointment to the Illinois Arts Council when Governor Quinn stopped by to announce appointment

Suzie is ready for summer visiting the Two Sisters beach portrait by Spanish painter Joaqúin Sorolla y Bastida at the Chicago Art Institute.  Painted in Valencia’s coast you can almost feel a breeze, water splashing and the warmth of el sol.

Suzie watched the CNBC documentary “Escape from Havana: An American Story” about the airlift of Cuban children from Cuba in the early ‘60s.  Sad and tragic but hopeful with life lessons for all - bring Suzie her tissues.

Suzie was On the Scene at NY’s Golden Theatre this weekend, in awe of the very talented ALFRED MOLINA, in RED, the Tony nominated play by Ken Logan of Chicago.  Red tells the story of artist Mark Rothko struggle to validate himself and his art. The two man-play is well written, superbly acted and is a shoo-in for multi-awards.  UPDATE:  They WON BIG AT TONY’s.  Won for Best Play and 5 other awards.

Suzie been riveted by Univision On Demand’s “La Intervista: Mujeres Asesinas”.  Real women who have killed proudly stating “Matamos Solo Por Lo Que Amamos”.  We kill only for what we love Hey Girlfriend, so does Suzie (figuratively speaking of course)!

Suzie seen this Saturday at Billy Elliott The Musical watching the amazingly talented CESAR CORRALES at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.  An amazingly talented 13-year old Cuban-Mexican that was born to dance.  ¡Increible!

Suzie’s planning a visit to URUGUAY’s visual playground. Have you been??  There’s ART ART EVERYWHERE in Punta del Este from Pablo Atchugarry’s large installation art at Maldonado to Ana Tiscona’s photography at Galeria del Paseo to hallways of Miro, Chagall and Dalli’s at the Ralli Museum

Crying into her tissues, watching JUAN DOWNEY’s classic video installation art “About Cages” a raw statement on political repression way ahead of its time.

Suzie wants you to know! Ana Mendieta’s signature series “Silueta Works in Mexico” is now part of the permanent collection at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.  ¡VALE VERLO!
