Her family may have dissed her for her Justin Bieber addiction, gossip columns hint at other addictions, then there’s her exile from Taylor Swift’s inner circle. But Selena Gomez fans love her and have made her for the second time in a row the most followed celebrity on Instagram.
This is quiet a feat in the era of Kardashian-like infamy, quickly minted micro-celebrities and expensive PR campaigns. The Tex-Mex Gomez boosts a 130 million Instagram followers which nearly represents everyone living in Japan. What is the real shocker is that she gained some 40 million followers from last year.
Last year she garnered 89 million Instagram followers, taking the Most Followed Celebrity in Instagram crown from her former bestie Taylor Swift.
Gomez did make her share of headlines in 2017: First was their was her kidney transplant, her first serious acting role in a Woody Allen movie A Raining Day in New York and then of course there was her love reunion with her former teen love Justin Bieber. She also incidentally made some news music with songs like “Fetish” and “Bad Liar.”

What is for sure is that Gomez who has a knack for cancelling appearances, and often faces backlash for depending on lip-sync singing has profited from her Instagram fame.
Last year Coach announced Gomez would be their brand ambassador to the tune of $10 million. In August she debuted Coach’s Americana brand in hopes lots of her 130 million Instagram follwers would buy, buy, and buy.
Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo came in second place with 116 million followers and then Ariana Grande rounded out the top three with 115 million followers.
