If anyone fears that America is trying to get rid of diversity initiatives fear not, we have Lady Gaga lovin’ the gays and promoting diversity all while wrapped in the flag of capitalism.  And while living inside a pod or egg depending on whom you ask.

Lady Gaga’s new song ‘Born This Way’ maybe a rip off of something sung before but is a genuine homage to embracing who you are regardless of what you are.  So Amigos listen up, she is putting all the Latino loathers, brown bashers and Hispanic haters on notice.  We love ourselves even if you don’t -  ¿Por Que? – because we were born this way and are the face of diversity.

I suspect she wrote the song more for her core gay fan base, but no one is writing anything on the pueblo’s behalf so we can lay claim.  She did say it was for anyone that was ‘disenfranchised’ which is basically anyone on any given day.

The problem with Lady Gaga as Chief Diversity Officer is that she is trying to sell records and doesn’t wear pants.  To her credit not many others especially those that should be, are singing the praises of a diverse nation. There has to be more diversity promoters out there, and if on occasion they wear sensible shoes and see the benefits of covering their crotch while doing so, even better.

ImageIf more elected officials would embrace the benefits of diversity at this time there would be less xenophobes coming out of the woodwork, or out of the south.  I wonder if those two places are one in the same?

According to The Daily Beast’s Jacob Bernstein “Born This Way” was intended as an anthem to diversity and Corey Johnson of Towlerroad.com said, “Gaga has used her celebrity to advocate for equality more than anyone else.”

When diversity becomes ‘in’ only when someone, who wears her lunchmeat as a dress, sings about it you know we are in trouble. When diversity continues to be on the ‘outs’ and rhetoric continuously promotes ‘brown is out and only white is right’ nothing good will come of it.

ImageWe cannot accept that diversity will simply happen by listening to “Born this Way” or by watching a WASP from the upper east side of Manhattan named Gwyneth warble along with black funkster Cee Loo Green on the Grammy’s.

If Lady Gaga is trying to be the voice of this generation (it would help if she had a good voice, oops, I digress) as some say, and she’s teaching diversity, I am grateful to her, because at least someone has it in their lesson plan.

It would be unfortunate if the nation would have to wait for Gaga’s ‘little monsters’ to vote to keep diversity initiatives alive and have the concept of diversity become ‘in’ again.
