The Republican Party is bringing forth another premiere Senatorial candidate in terms of bigotry, blowharded-ness and all around bastard with the announcement Sheriff Joe Arpaio is running for a Senate seat in Arizona.
The convicted racial profiler and all around ass-hole to Latinos is ready to help “support the agenda and policies of President Donald Trump.” And what better way than to run in the 2018 Republican primary for Senator Jeff Flake’s seat.
We assume Arpaio feels emboldened that if an alleged pedophile and sex pest like Roger Moore can make a run for the Senate and almost win, why can’t he. Lest not forget Arpaio, 85, was pardoned for his crimes by the “stable genius” and his good friend President Donald Trump.
Arpaio has always been seen as an immigration lightening rod. And his campaign, launched today, is dedicated to furthering the stanch anti-immigrant policies of the current administration. The president can count on Arpaio to violate the civil rights of the legal and undocumented immigrants if elected, much like he did in his 20-plus year tenure as Sheriff of Maricopa County.
Let see if the Arizona voters are fans of Arpaios’ love of prison chain gangs and addiction to humiliation of prisoners and deprivation of basic necessities. Not sure if its as bad as stalking teen girls at malls like Moore is accused of - so a marked improvement, some may say.
Let’s hope voters care that a federal judge convicted Arpaio for “wilfully violating a 2011 injunction barring his officers from detaining Latino drivers solely on the suspicion that they were in the county illegally.” When Trump pardoned Arpaio for his bigotry last August he noted Arpaio’s “admirable service.”
It is doubtful the Arizona African-American community will forget he was Trump’s henchmen on the Obama birther movement.
The self-dubbed “toughest sheriff in America,” is currently unemployed after losing a re-election bid for sheriff of Maricopa County in 2016 after 24 years in office.
