Stock Market Quickly Forgets a Tax Dodging Pussy Grabbing Bankruptcy Addict Was Elected President

Stock Market Loves Trumpismo

The late great investor Bernard Baruch once noted “The main purpose of the stock market is to make fools of as many men as possible,” and today when the Dow Jones industrial average passed 19,000 for the first time, in light of a shocking election a mere 14 days ago, many are feeling foolish. According to the NY Times the Dow closed a record “high six times in the two weeks since the presidential election.” Experts predicted a Trump presidency and the economic uncertainty it would bring would devastate the stock market. No one worried much because no one believed a tax dodging bankruptcy addict and self-professed pussy grabber would be elected.

When the election results started indicating a Trump win was possible, on the evening of November 8, 2016, international markets plummeted, falling more than 800 points. Many predicted this was the beginning of the end for the market. What we must never forget is that like the new administration the market is godless with a short-term memory and has an excuse for everything. Art Hogan, Chief Market Strategist at Wunderlich Securities stated when trying to explain the market rally “It’s the fact that we got conciliatory speeches from both candidates.” WTF- no we didn’t –one candidate who typically is orange-hued was decidedly several shades lighter and practically speechless, the other candidate didn’t give a speech until she awoke from the shocking loss and her alleged vodka-induced coma.

The stock market with its defective moral compass is excited about less regulation and more infrastructure spending under a Republican President and Congress. And who doesn’t like spending like a drunken sailor even if you can’t afford it. Most importantly the market is the king of self-serving excited that Trump and his gringo round table will rollback oversight on financial firms like Goldman Sachs and the Consumer Protection Act.
