This one is for the record books of Paraguay – a $131 million worth of cocaine seized at a river port this week.
Employees became suspicious about the rice bags that were due to be shipped to Mozambique from the private Phoenix river port – located at the border zone of Paraguay/Brazil/Argentina. Upon further inspection officials found 1,900 pound of cocaine with a street value of $131 million.
This tri-border region is a popular smuggling route used by traffickers. Nonetheless Paraguay is not considered a major drug producing center and this seizure represents almost half of all the drugs seized in 2010.
