14 people were killed when an out-of-control truck plowed into a religious procession in the northeastern Brazilian town of Feira Grande, authorities said.
The truck’s brakes failed as it was proceding downhill toward the town, media outlets said, citing reports from firefighters and Alagoas state police.
After cutting a swath through the procession, the truck crashed into a building, bursting into flames on impact. The driver was trapped inside the cab and burned to death.
Authorities said they were searching through the rubble of the building for more potential victims.
