VIOLENCE: Black Community Leaders Peg Violence in Community to Racial Tensions not Gang Activity
This weekend Chicago black community leaders and members of the Nation of Islam called for racially motivated violence to end in their communities. The leaders noted racially motivated violence is increasing in Little Village that is divided into South Lawndale (predominantly Latino) and North Lawndale (predominantly African-American).
Specifically violence at the Farragut Career Academy High School is on the upswing. The school is located at 2345 S. Christiana Avenue in the heart of Little Village and is attended by South and North Lawndale residents.
In the past three months 548 violent crimes have been committed in the area.
