St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Hosts 5th Annual Sabor Latino Gala in Chicago

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® will host its fifth Sabor Latino (Latin Flavor) Gala in Chicago on Friday, June 17, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., at the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th Street, Chicago. The gala will celebrate the mission of St. Jude, which helps to improve the survival rates of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases worldwide. This year’s Masters of Ceremony will be Marialen Magaña, on-air talent for local radio station Que Buena 105.1 FM, and Omar Ramos, on-air talent for La Kalle 106.7 FM. The night’s keynote speaker will be Univision WGBO news anchor Angelica Atondo. Nicole Suarez, 3rd place winner of the Univision show Nuestra Belleza Latina will also be making a special guest appearance.
Guests will enjoy exquisite cuisine from Chicago’s top restaurants showcasing Latin American, Caribbean and Spanish specialties, including Carnivale Restaurant, Cherub’s Café, Decolores Galería y Sabores, Emilio’s Sol y Nieve, Fonda del Mar, Macondo Colombian Coffee & Empanadas, Mexique, Mixteco Grill, Pierre’s Bakery, Siboney Cuban Restaurant, Taco Joint, and Tumbao. There will also be live and silent auctions, musical performances by the ‘Orquesta Sabor Latino de los Hermanos Alvarez’ and Mixmaster DJ O.J. Also attending the gala will be special guest Lisa “La Boriqua,” salsa instructor at Latin Street Dance Academy.
The Sabor Latino Gala is a fundraising event that recognizes the valuable contributions and support the Latino community has provided to the children of St. Jude who are fighting against cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The event also celebrates the work of the St. Jude International Outreach Program (IOP), which has partner clinics in 14 countries including Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.
The program aims to improve the survival rates of children with catastrophic illnesses worldwide, through the sharing of knowledge, technology and organizational skills. The program transfers the progress achieved in the treatment of childhood cancer in developed countries to those with limited resources.
