Pilsen Org Makes Donation of 1,000 Bikes to Central America
Over the next month, Working Bikes Cooperative will send 1,000 bicycles to Central America. The first 500 will be sent Saturday November 20th. These bikes will be sent to the Salvadoran American Humanitarian Foundation (SAHF). SAHF supports programs in Human Development, Health, Education, Nutrition, Housing and Disaster Relief Aid implemented by its in-country sister Foundation, FUSAL, which together with other organizations work to improve the quality of life of the Salvadoran people, especially the most vulnerable, by making use of their potential and strengthening their communities.
The next shipment of 500 bicycles will take place Saturday December 4th and will go to the Panamanian Association of Goodwill Industries. Goodwill Panama offers professional training to young people and adults with disabilities, along with basic labor and vocational training in production workshops.
Volunteers are needed both days to help prep and pack the bicycles. Interested volunteers are asked to arrive at Working Bikes (2434 S. Western Ave.) at 10am. The shipping parties will last until 2pm. Lunch will be provided. Please contact: volunteer@workingbikes.org with any questions or visit www.workingbikes.org for more information.
