“Operation Return to Owner” Results in Hundreds of Arrests
In the third part of the operation last weekend, authorities worked in the Far South Side’s Calumet district, the West Side’s Harrison district and Northwest Sides Foster district. The strategy is to target high crime areas to lower violence by focusing in on gang violence and drugs.
In the three-part operation, 522 people were arrested, 99 vehicles were impounded, 12 stolen vehicles were returned and 46 weapons were confiscated.
“These joint enforcement operations work,” Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis told reporters today at police headquarters. “We try to do everything we can to disrupt criminal activity and keep the city safe and it works. We’ve had limited violence every time we’ve done one of these operations and we will continue doing these throughout the year,” he said.
