One Cool Collected Rahm Twitter and One that Really Tweets Rahm’s Thoughts

One twitter is real tweets and one is an imposter ..The real @RahmEmanuel has just more than 6,000 Twitter followers, while the imposter @MayorEmanuel breezed past 20,000 this week.

“The fake Rahm account has thousands more followers than (almost) any real elected official’s does,” said Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey, who further blurred the line between fiction and reality by engaging in two Twitter exchanges with @MayorEmanuel on Tuesday. “I would look at the @MayorEmanuel account as the social media equivalent of a newspaper cartoon. It gives people a virtual caricature of Rahm.”

With no verification needed to establish and account, anonymously written tweets have become common. @MayorEmanuel delivers a more detailed narrative, offering a hysterical sense of drama. Through much swearing, in 140 character bursts, there is running commentary on the candidates rollercoaster campaign with characters from DC and Chicago.

(“I keep getting Peter (expletive) Gabriel’s (expletive) ‘In Your Eyes’ stuck in my (expletive) head and it’s driving me (expletive) insane”) or shares his passion for his favorite caffeinated drink (“Oh, coffee, you glorious (expletive) bean”).

“Suffice it to say, it’s somebody with a very keen knowledge of Rahm’s schedule and Rahm’s personality and local politics,” the commissioner said. “It takes a certain balance to be able to do that. There needs to be the right blend of a factual underpinning along with a sharp sense of humor. If you read those Tweets, there is an almost real-time knowledge of Rahm’s schedule or ongoing events. I think that’s telling in and of itself.”

He added, “The best thing about the @MayorEmanuel account would be if it turned out to be done by Rahm himself.”
