Man Dies After Being Shot Attempting to Help Robbery Victim
While attempting to help a woman being robbed of her purse, a man was shot and killed Monday night.
Bobby Butler was shot in the abdomen just before 6 p.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood. The 55–year-old man went to aid a 26-year-old woman he saw being robbed at gunpoint, said a Chicago Police News Affairs officer.
The woman had walked from a nearby “L” stop to her car and was about to get in when a man, about 25-30 years old, threatened her with a gun on the 2100 block of South Millard Avenue. Butler saw what was happening and came over to stop the robber, but was unfortunately shot by the yet unidentified man who ran away. The woman was unharmed, police said.
Butler was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m..
The shooter is described as a black man with a dark complexion, about 5’ 6 to 5’8, and weighing between 165 and 175 pounds. He was wearing a black pullover sweater and dark pants.
