(Logan Square) Great Dane, Owner Corner Sexual Assault Suspect

A man and his Great Dane are being credited with holding a man suspected of sexual assault.

Thursday night, the man and his dog, Scooby, heard a girl screaming for help on the 2800 block of North Whipple just before 5 p.m., and ran to investigate.

Seeing the suspect, Larry E. Smith, 28, trying to kiss the 14-year-old girl victim then run off, the Great Dane and his owner ran after and corned Smith in an alley until police arrived.

Smith has three drug felony convictions and was convicted of public indecency in 2009 for which he spent nine days in Cook County jail.

The victim is reportedly okay.
