Humboldt Park Family: 3 Killed, Many Injured in Kentucky Car Accident
On its way home from a wedding in Florida, an SUV driving through Kentucky, on its way home to Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, was struck by a truck, killing three of its passengers.
Around 3:30 a.m. on February 23rd, on an unlit stretch of Kentucky’s I-65, the victim’s Nissan Pathfinder was struck by a FedEx tractor trailer from behind. Three of the victims for thrown from the vehicle. Sadly, 26-year-old Victor Chacon, 9-year-old Brianna Chacon and 11-year-old Tatyana Alvarez were pronounced dead at the scene. Two smaller children, 5-year-old Victor Chacon III and 2-year-old Yaznylie Chacon were taken to the hospital in serious condition along with 30-year-old Melissa Gonzalez, who was driving, and her husband 49-year-old Victor Chacon Sr, who was in the passenger seat.
Victor Chacon had just married his wife Sophia.
The highway was shut down for hours, and the Kentucky State Police were still investigating.
The grandmother of the deceased children, Carmen Gonzalez said the family was “unbelievably close.”
