Humboldt Park Pair Charged with Child Abuse
A woman and a man from Humboldt Park were charged Thursday after the woman’s 3-year-old girl suffered belt whipmarks and a broken arm when she was being disciplined more than a week ago, police said.
Felecia Young, 23, of the 600 block of N. Hamlin Avenue and Erick Martin, 24, were both charged late Thursday with one count each of aggravated battery to a child, according to police. Martin is not the child’s father.
Young was arrested at 6 a.m. on Tuesday at Children’s Memorial Hospital, 707 W. Fullerton Ave., because she allegedly failed to provide adequate medical care in a timely manner to her daughter who was suffering from a broken right arm, several loop-shaped whipmarks to her back and burns to her buttocks, according to a police report. The child was being treated at Children’s.
Young allegedly admitted that she failed to get medical care for the child when the child was injured more than a week ago when Young was disciplining her, the report said.
