Fourteen-year-old Brian DeLeon of the Logan Square/Humboldt Park area has been placed on life support after the brutal beating he received last night around 9 p.m. at the 2900 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue.

DeLeon had just finished studying with his girlfriend when he was struck by either a bat or hammer as he walked home from her home.  He has undergone several surgeries and is currently in critical condition at Children Memorial Hospital.

When he did not respond to repeated calls from his girlfriend she set out to search for him and found him unresponsive several blocks away from his home.

Police do not have a motive, DeLeon was not believed to be involved in gang activity that is prevalent in the area.  He had graduated last summer from Yates Elementary and is currently enrolled at the Phoenix Military Academy in Chicago.
