Gutierrez: May 12 Citizenship Workshop With Special Guest Mayor Rahm Emanuel
Public Service Announcement on Univision Features Congressman and Mayor Inviting Participation In Spanish
Today, Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) will hold a citizenship workshop in Chicago on Saturday, May 12 at which he will be joined by special guest Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Public Service Announcements produced by Spanish-language broadcaster Univision and their Chicago affiliate WGBO-TV Channel 66 began airing last week. At the workshop, residents who qualify to apply for citizenship will receive help with the application process, applying for fee waivers, and other steps to successfully apply for citizenship. Anyone who qualifies to apply for citizenship or has questions about the process should attend the event which is open to the public.
Both the Congressman and the Mayor are expected to make remarks.
The Mayor and the Congressman will be helping Teresa Lopez - a 90 year old great-great-grandmother - apply for citizenship. She should be among the 150 or so people applying for citizenship at tomorrow’s event.
Here’s some info about Ms. Lopez:
-She has 9 children and 50 grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
-She was born in 1922 in Mexico City.
-She’s been a lawful permanent resident since 1996 and has resided in Chicago since that time.
-She currently resides in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood.
-She is widowed. Her husband passed away in 2008 at the age of 98.
