Chase ends on City’s Far Southwest Side

At least two people are in custody following the fatal shooting of a man in southwest suburban Summit late Tuesday which prompted a police chase that ended on the Far Southwest Side.

Summit resident Oscar Solorzano, 26, was shot at West 61st Place and South Archer Road and was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

After the murder, at least two suspects fled the scene—leading Summit police on a chase into Chicago that finally ended in the 5200 block of South Neva Avenue, according to a Wentworth Area police sergeant.

The suspects were placed in custody and will be taken back to Summit, the sergeant said.

Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said Chicago police assisted Summit police in only the arrest of one suspect who attempted to flee on foot.

The sergeant did not immediately know what time the shooting occurred or exactly how many suspects were taken into custody.

An autopsy for Solorzano, of the 7400 block of West 57th Street, is scheduled for later Wednesday, according to the spokeswoman.

Summit police were not available early Wednesday and Summit fire declined to comment.
