Deceased Pilsen Mom Honored with Street Sign on 17th Place & South Halsted
Martha Gonzalez’s family was never going to forget her when she died tragically on October 13, 2009 and now her Pilsen community won’t either. Alderman Danny Solis through the urging of Gonzalez’ family has designated the 1700 block of South Halsted as the “Martha Gonzalez Place.”
The young mother died at age 36 when she was struck and killed by a hit-and-run-driver who never stopped. After the unidentified driver hit Martha she was then struck by an on-coming CTA bus at 18th and Halsted.
The unveiling of the street sign occurred on her 38th birthday and was attended by the Alderman and members of Gonzalez’s family.
