Cubs to Celebrate Earth Day with First “Green Game” at Wrigley Field
Constellation Energy Powers Chicago Cubs with Renewable Energy Certificates, Offers Green Energy and Savings to Chicagoland Consumers
Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), a leading competitive electricity supplier, today announced it will commemorate Earth Day by powering the Chicago Cubs’ April 23 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with 100 percent renewable energy.
Constellation Energy will usher in the first “green game” at Wrigley Field by purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs) to cover the typical energy usage on game day. In addition, Constellation Energy today began mailing a new green electricity choice plan to more than 1 million Chicagoland residents offering 10 percent green energy when customers choose Constellation as their electricity supplier.
“We are honored to power the first ‘green game’ for one of the most storied franchises in sports,” said Bruce Stewart, chief marketing officer, Retail Energy, for Constellation Energy. “Our Earth Day celebration renews our commitment to bring green electricity choice and savings to Chicagoland residents and is another step in a long-term sustainability partnership with the Chicago Cubs.”
“Under the Ricketts Family ownership we have explored new ways to promote keeping Wrigley Field beautiful and incorporate sustainable programs, and Constellation Energy is helping make it happen,” said Wally Hayward, executive vice president, chief sales and marketing officer of the Chicago Cubs.
The “green day” celebration reflects Constellation Energy’s new partnership with the Chicago Cubs organization; Constellation also supplies power to Wrigley Field.
Homeowners and renters in the Chicagoland area can take advantage of electricity choice and savings and guarantee that 10 percent of their electricity will be sourced from renewable energy facilities in the United States. Constellation Energy began providing residential electric service to Chicago-area residents in February, and offers fixed-price savings.
The Cubs “green game” is powered by Green-e certified RECs which represent the environmental benefits of electricity generated by wind, solar or other renewable power facilities. By matching the electricity used at the Cubs game, Constellation avoids approximately 55,943 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
Constellation Energy is a recognized leader in the Illinois business and public sector energy market, and has been providing electric and natural gas service to thousands of the state’s largest employers, schools, hospitals and municipalities for more than a decade.
