CRIME: Man Fatally Stabbed in Neck By Niece

Police say a man is dead after being stabbed in the neck by his 18-year-old niece during an argument Wednesday night.

At 10:10 p.m., a 34-year-old man was arguing with his 18-year-old niece at their home in the 1700 block of North Sawyer Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, according to Shakespeare District Police Captain Marc Buslik.

As he picked up a hot sauce bottle to hit her with, the woman, pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck, Buslik said.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to police. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not confirm the death early Thursday.

The uncle and niece lived in their home with other people, some of whom were at home during the incident, in a second floor apartment, said a Grand Central Area detective. There have been no prior reported domestic violence incidents at that address.

The woman is in custody, although no charges have been filed early Thursday.

Earlier reports claimed the 18-year-old had stabbed her uncle in the neck with a bottle.
