CRIME: (Logan Square) Convicted Felon Charged With Firing Weapon
Chicago Police arrested and charged a 36-year-old man early Saturday morning after taking immediate action when shots were fired in the Logan Square community just before 3:30 a.m. on November 6.
Jacob Vega, 36, of the 6000 block of W. Fullerton was charged with one felony count of Unlawful Use of Weapon by Felon, and cited with multiple traffic violations, including Driving the Wrong Way on a One-Way Street, Driving without Headlights, Reckless Driving, Driving on a Revoked License, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance.
An Area Five Detective was in the vicinity of Diversey and Mozart when he heard shots fired and saw a four-door sedan fleeing the wrong way on a one-way street with its lights off. The vehicle continued as Vega disregarded stop signs and eventually discarded a large silver handgun out of the driver’s side window. The Detective and assisting Shakespeare (14th) District officers curbed the vehicle on the 2900 block of W. George, at which time Vega was taken into custody.
Further investigation led to the positive identification by multiple witnesses of Vega as the offender who fired shots from the four door sedan. The weapon also was recovered without incident.
Vega was scheduled to appear in bond court on November 7, 2010.
