CPS Parents Sue - Allege Higher Number of Minority Students are Flunked

Wednesday, a number of CPS students’ parents are planning to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education for what they say is the unfair failing of minority students.

Parents United for Responsible Education say the new controversial promotion policy that calls for flunked students to repeat a grade is “harmful, “wasteful” and “extravagant” in today’s down economy, and claim CPS disproportionally flunk black and Latino students.

The parent group is calling for CPS to create ways of recognizing students’ problems earlier in order to provide help and prevent the failing of a grade.
