Community Alert:  Con Game Targeting Senior Citizens

Senior Citizen Residents of the 009 District should be aware of Deceptive Practice: Fraud/ Con Games occurring during the month of October 2011.  Incidents have been recorded in the vicinity of: 3300 to 3900 (Pershing Road) Hamilton Street to Kedize Avenue.

About The Crime:

Offenders claiming to be “City of Chicago” workers display fake identification cards to gain entry in to the homes and take property from Senior Citizens. The fake identification cards have read “Office of City Inspectors”, or “City Inspectors Office”.

About The Offenders:

  * Three male white or white Hispanics  
  * Age: 40 – 50 years old
  * Weight: “heavy build” 
  * Hair: dark colored
  * Attire: dark colored “utility worker” style clothing

What You Can Do:

  * Call 311 – identify yourself as a senior citizen who needs to verify that a city worker was sent to your home
  * 311 can verify that a city crew is working in your neighborhood/block
  * Do not allow unexpected service people or city workers into your home
  * Always ask to see a worker’s Identification Card & write down their information
  * Call a relative or trusted neighbor to assist you if a stranger appears at your door claiming to be a service provider or city worker
  * Contact 911 to report any suspicious people or activity
