On May 5, 1862 Mexican forces routed the French at the Battle of Puebla and an annual celebration was born. Is it weird that it’s a bigger deal today in the U.S. than it is in Mexico? As to why this year’s celebration actually falls on the 7th, well, that’s just a matter of convenience.
