Chicago’s Mayor-Elect Emanuel Puts Latinos in Leadership Roles

As Rahm Emanuel prepares to take office as Mayor of Chicago, he is proposing a reorganization of the Chicago’s City Council, and he names a number of Latinos to key positions.

After meeting with the 50 members of the council, Emanuel who wants the council to reflect the diversity of the city, has named alderman Ray Suarez as vice-mayor, Ald. George Cardenas as head of the Health and Environmental Protection Committee, and Roberto Maldonado as deputy chairman of the Human Relations Committee. Ald. Daniel Solis will remain the head of the Zoning Committee, and Ariel Reboyaras will take the number 2 positions on the License and Consumer Protection Committee and the Aviation Committee.
