Chicago Ties Washington D.C. for Worst Traffic in the Country
Done annually, this year’s Urban Mobility Report from the Texas Transportation Institute has put Chicago on top, but that’s not exactly a good thing.
This year’s report has Chicago tied with Washington D.C. as the cities with the worst traffic in the country. According to the report, as of 2009, Chicago and Northwest Indiana spent around 70 hours a year sitting in traffic. That number is about double the nation’s average.
Previously, Chicago ranked No. 2 or 3, but the traffic has apparently gotten worse over the years.
In addition to spending the most hours stuck in traffic, Chicago drivers also spend the most money doing it, an estimated $1,738 a year, per person.
