Genio Carpenter, 23, of Vallejo, Calif., was charged with one felony count of possession of cannabis – more than 5,000 grams, after officers were made aware on Monday of suspicious activity on the 200 block of S. Canal St.
Officers learned of two suspicious suitcases at this location, and discovered a strong smell of cannabis emanating from Carpenter’s luggage. Further investigation revealed the suitcases contained approximately 19 pounds of cannabis, with an approximate street value of more than $137,000. Carpenter was placed into custody and charged accordingly.

Narcotics Unit officers called on the assistance of a police canine, and were alerted to the positive presence of narcotics.
Officers obtained a search warrant and were able to recover cannabis and heroin that were hidden inside of property. A total of 35 pounds of cannabis valued at over $251,000 and 648 grams of heroin with a street value of more than $64,000 were seized. The Narcotics Unit continues to investigate.
