“Celebrating History, Heritage, and the American Dream” at UIC
UIC is one of the most diverse colleges in the nation. Every year UIC hosts Latino Heritage Month between the dates of September 15 and October 15 to commemorate Latino heritage, history and culture as well as endeavors and accomplishments of American citizens who were once immigrants or had ancestors descending from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America and South America.
Every year there is a particular theme launched by the UIC Latino Cultural Center. This year’s theme is “Celebrating history, Heritage, and the American Dream.”
Orgullo Latino, will be taking place September 16 in the lecture center plaza. Another interesting event that will be taking place is the Latino Aerosol Expressions which fosters a group of Chicago based artists who will demonstrate a live aerosol art show. Academic talks will also take place inside the lecture centers with prominent guest speakers and a book signing by the internationally acclaimed author of The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros. A full schedule of events, times, and locations can be found online or at the Latino Cultural Center.
