Benedictine Sisters Reach Agreement - St. Scholastica Academy Gains New Life
ST. SCHOLASTICA ACADEMY GAINS NEW LIFE AS THE ORDER OF BENEDICTINE SISTERS REACH AGREEMENT WITH UNO TO CONTINUE OPERATING FACILITY AS A VITAL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
-New School will Enroll 570 students, many of them Hispanics-
The United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) and the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago will hold a news conference on Tuesday to announce an agreement that ensures the legendary St. Scholastica School facility in Rogers Park continues the vital mission of educating youth.
The school will enroll 570 students, alleviating academic overcrowding in Rogers Park.
Juan Rangel, UNO’s CEO, praised the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago for ensuring “this great institution will continue to provide a high quality education” in a region of the city facing fewer quality academic options for parents. “We are committed to maintaining the high academic standards that earned St. Scholastica its great reputation,” said Rangel.
UNO operates a network of 11 charter schools with a combined enrollment of 5,500 students.
“It is gratifying to know that these buildings will continue a social mission to provide a quality education for underserved children in Chicago,” said Sister Patricia Crowley, Prioress of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago.
UNO’s plan is to “re-open” the school building, located at 7416 N. Ridge Boulevard, in September; the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.
