The Singing Kids From Morelia: Conservatorio de las Rosas
The prestigious Young Children’s Choir from Morelia was founded in 1949 and modeled after the Institute of the Vienna Boy’s Choir of Austria. It is presently composed of boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13 years. Initially the choir only accepted boys, but that changed in 1998 when participation opened to girls. The inclusion of girls has renovated their sound as well as their image. The choir rehearses eight hours per week. They work on vocal technique, music reading, and repertoire. They have interpreted classic pieces, national and international folk and traditional pieces, as well as contemporary ones. Choir children members are chosen carefully based on strict standards of vocal musical quality.
