In just 18 months, Mazzanti and Plan:b constructed the dazzling New Medellin Sports Coliseum in Colombia, ahead of last year’s South American Games.
If taken into account how short of a time it was built, the Medellin Sports Coliseum is quite an accomplishment. The 493,000 square foot complex has a multi-layered roof design and an open-air skin which helps to reduce the dependence of large buildings on air conditioning.
Mazzanti and Plan:b covered the exterior with pale green laser cut partitions, which provide a glamorous aesthetic to the venue while allowing the local breeze to cool the inside naturally. The bold architecture and design of the complex also maximizes viewing areas for fans, and invites pedestrian traffic to take a peek at its interior.
